What types of community service qualify?
Work from multiple community service ventures may be combined to achieve the community service hours, which must be verified by the volunteer supervisor using the Community Service Activity Form. Hours must be completed between July 15th, 2011, and March 2nd, 2012. Desert Schools defines community service as those activities that benefit the public good. These activities must be done in partnership with a local nonprofit (501c3) and/or governmental organizations. Most high-quality, supervised volunteer activities done for charitable service agencies in Arizona will qualify. Church-related services may be considered, only if they are beneficial to the entire community (i.e., feeding the homeless, cleaning up communities, etc.) and are not proselyte in nature. Please also note any leadership positions you held or currently hold in these activities. For more information about volunteer opportunities, please contact HandsOn Greater Phoenix at www.handsonphoenix.org.
