The Warwick Marshall Scholarship is awarded to one US citizen annually to undertake a postgraduate taught or research degree at the University of Warwick, normally for up to two years. The award consists of the
payment of academic fees at the full overseas rate, a living allowance of £828 per month, airfares to and from the United States, plus additional claimable allowances. It is a condition of the award that recipients must enrol on a degree that can be completed within two years. Those applicants who wish to undertake a one-year postgraduate programme must also consider a course of study for their second year. This second year programme could be at the University of Warwick or at a different UK institution. If a student is awarded a place on a doctoral programme at the University of Warwick, they will be required to apply to the Marshall Commission for their third year of funding.
To qualify for the 2011 award candidates should:
- Be citizens of the United States of America (at the time they apply for a scholarship);
- Hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States (by the time they take up their scholarship, ie September 2011);
- Have obtained a grade point average of not less than 3.7 (or A-) on their undergraduate degree (exceptions will be considered only on the specific recommendation of the sponsoring college).
- Have graduated from their first undergraduate college or university after April 2008.
- Have not yet studied for, or hold a degree or degree equivalent qualification from, a British university.
Candidates should apply directly to the Marshall Commission via their online form. If selected the Commission endeavours to secure a place at the first choice university and course, however, the decision to accept the scholar ultimately remains with the university.
The deadline for the 2011 competition is 1 October 2010.
Further details on how to apply can be found via the Marshall Scholarship website.
