UTS-China Scholarship Council Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) are collaborating in providing high quality research education and scholarships to qualified students from the People's Republic of China to UTS.


UTS will offer up to fifteen (15) tuition fee scholarships each year to students from the People's Republic of China who have received the CSC Scholarship.

The CSC Scholarship benefits will include living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), visa application fees, and a return airfare to UTS Sydney campus by the most economical route.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:


  • Be Chinese citizens or permanent residents of China


  • Have received an unconditional offer of admission to the UTS PhD program


  • Intend to pursue a PhD in one of the priority academic research identified by CSC and/or within UTS areas of research strengths.

    The final selection for the joint UTS Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship will be made by CSC on the basis of academic merit.

    Duration

    The maximum duration of the UTS Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship program is up to a period of 48 months, progression each year is subject to satisfactory academic performance.

    How to apply

  • Select your supervisor from the UTS Supervisors' list (PDF, 90kb) , please reconfirm the supervisor's availability with the faculty contact officer using the listed email address before lodging your formal application


  • Complete the UTS application form (PDF, 365kb) and your application processing fee will be waived. It is important that supporting documents are included with your UTS application form.


  • Closing date for UTS applications is 16 January 2011.

  • After receiving your letter of offer from UTS, it is your responsibility to apply for the Government of China scholarship directly to CSC.


  • It is also your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the conditions of the CSC scholarship.


  • The final selection for the Joint UTS-CSC Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship will be made by CSC. Closing date for CSC application is 20 March each year.


  • Other information

    Research commencement dates at UTS are:
  • 1st July 2011 (Semester 2);


  • 1st January 2012 (Semester 1)



  • Successful scholarship recipients must apply for an Australian student visa. Information about visas can be obtained from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.

    Tuition fees will be funded by UTS for the duration of your PhD program. CSC will fund the living allowance including the overseas student health insurance, a return airfare to and from Sydney and visa application fees.
