Stewart Milne Group is one of the UK's leading privately owned house builders. Since starting in 1975 in the North East of Scotland the company has grown and now has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester and Witney.

The Stewart Milne Group is split into four Operating Divisions:

  • Stewart Milne Homes
  • Stewart Milne Timber Systems
  • Stewart Milne Construction
  • Stewart Milne Developments
Up to seven, 4th year students will be offered the opportunity to develop their business acumen through extensive mentoring support and individually tailored learning opportunities within the company.

The successful applicants will be appointed as Student Directors at Aberdeen Business School (ABS) and will each receive £1000. The Stewart Milne Group will also make an award for the ABS Student Director who has contributed most during the year.

What are Student Directors?

The mission of the ABS Student Directors is to serve as the official student representatives of ABS. The ABS Student Director group will promote a spirit of co-operation between academic staff, students and the business world.

The ABS Student Directors will have a number of duties and roles:-

* Attend and contribute to, formal meetings with the ABS Senior Management Team on two occasions each Semester.
* Participate in a lunch time debate with academic staff of ABS and senior representatives from The Stewart Milne Group in respect of the strategic developments and direction of both organisations.
* Each Student Director will make a formal presentation at an end of year dinner identifying the impact he or she has made during their period of office attended by representatives of ABS, the Stewart Milne Group and invited guests. An award for the ABS Student Director that has contributed most during the year will be made.
* Attend meetings of The Stewart Milne Group and undertake projects as identified by The Stewart Milne Group.
* Support the school's undergraduate recruitment and retention activities.
* Act as peer advisors.

Eligible Courses

The Scholarship is open to fourth year students registered on the following undergraduate degree programmes:

* Accounting and Finance BA (Hons)
* Management BA (Hons)
* Management with Marketing BA (Hons)
* Management with Economics BA (Hons)
* Management with Human Resource Management BA (Hons)
* Management with Finance BA (Hons)
* International Business Management BA (HONS)

How to Apply

ABS Student Directors will be selected by the Undergraduate Associate Dean, Programme / Course Leaders and nominated representatives from The Stewart Milne Group.

All honours year students from the BA/BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance course, and the BA/BA (Hons) Management Programme are invited to apply. Student Directors will be drawn from the Accounting & Finance course and the Management Programme.

Applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae and a 750 - 1,000 word essay on the following topic:

* Choose one business leader and discuss the characteristics which contribute to their effectiveness as a leader.

A number of candidates will be selected for interview which will incorporate a presentation, and the ABS Student Directors will then be chosen and announced.

The closing date for applications is August 2010. All applications must be submitted electronically and received by that date to be considered for the scholarship. Paper copies will only be accepted in exceptional cases. Only registered students of the Aberdeen Business School studying on the courses specified above may apply for this scholarship.
